In Sydney’s busy and competitive property market, the journey of Kristan Johnson stands out for its honesty, challenge, and purpose. His pathway into real estate was not planned and certainly not traditional. It was built through trial and error, personal setbacks, and a strong desire to protect buyers during one of the most stressful and financially significant decisions of their lives, buying a home.
Today, Kristan Johnson is recognised across Sydney’s Inner West as a trusted buyer’s agent. He is known for his calm communication style, clear advice, and negotiation approach that helps buyers secure the right property while avoiding costly mistakes. But before he became a respected figure in the industry, he was a young man searching for direction, learning from missteps, and gradually discovering where his strengths could create the greatest impact.
After finishing school, Kristan Johnson followed a path many young adults feel is expected. He studied, worked hard, and eventually entered a career as a mental health nurse. At the time, it felt like a responsible and stable decision.
During this period, he purchased his first property. What should have been a milestone moment became a difficult experience. Like many first time buyers, he made decisions without fully understanding the process, the negotiation dynamics, or where risks truly lay. The outcome created unnecessary financial pressure and emotional stress.
Rather than moving on, that experience stayed with him. It raised an important question: why are buyers, often everyday people, expected to negotiate against seasoned professionals with so little guidance? That single experience sparked a long-term interest in understanding property, negotiation, and how buyers could be better supported and protected.
Over time, Kristan Johnson realised nursing was not the career he wanted to pursue long-term. He transitioned into sales and marketing, eventually building and selling his own digital marketing agency.
Working in performance-driven marketing environments sharpened his ability to communicate clearly, negotiate strategically, and remain composed under pressure. He learned how to assess value quickly, manage high-stakes conversations, and guide people through decisions where emotion and logic often collide.
These skills would later prove critical in property negotiations, where buyers frequently face urgency, competition, and uncertainty. During this period, friends and family increasingly sought his advice on property decisions. Without formally entering real estate, he had already become a trusted guide.
When Kristan Johnson obtained his real estate licence, he faced a defining decision. In Australia, agents must choose whether they represent buyers or sellers. They cannot ethically or legally serve both.
Initially exploring the selling side, he quickly realised it conflicted with his values. The focus often leaned toward presentation over substance and persuasion over protection. He saw buyers navigating negotiations against trained professionals without equivalent representation.
The buyer advocacy role immediately made sense. Buyers were often emotionally invested, underprepared, and unsure who truly had their interests at heart. Kristan believed they deserved someone solely committed to securing the right outcome, not just a transaction.
This clarity became the foundation of his business philosophy. His role was not to push buyers faster, but to slow the process down, ask the right questions, negotiate firmly, and help clients make confident decisions with long-term value in mind.

In 2022, Kristan Johnson founded Johnson Property Co and formally stepped into the property industry as a buyer’s agent. Launching a commission-based business while raising a young family was not an easy choice, but it was one rooted in purpose.
The Sydney market is highly competitive, particularly in the Inner West. Early on, he focused on building trust through honest advice, realistic expectations, and strong negotiation outcomes. His approach helped buyers avoid overpaying, identify hidden risks, and secure properties they otherwise may have missed.
Word of mouth referrals followed, driven by clients who felt supported rather than pressured throughout the process.
In 2024, Kristan Johnson received local recognition at the Inner West Business Awards, reflecting the impact of his buyer-focused approach and growing reputation within the community.
In 2025, Johnson Property Co opened its shopfront on High Street in Petersham. The timing was significant, coming shortly after the birth of his second son. The physical space became a symbol of long-term commitment to the Inner West and a place where buyers could walk in, ask questions, and receive guidance without obligation.
The office now serves as both a professional base and a welcoming point of contact for buyers navigating the property market.
At the centre of Kristan Johnson’s work is a simple belief: property is about people first. Every buyer has different priorities, pressures, and fears. Understanding these allows him to negotiate more effectively and advocate more clearly.
This mindset helps buyers feel heard and supported, particularly during competitive negotiations where confidence and clarity matter most. It is also why many clients place their trust in him during what is often the largest financial decision of their lives.
Johnson Property Co currently operates with two buyer’s agents supported by a growing team. By the end of 2026, the agency plans to expand to five buyer’s agents while maintaining service quality and personalised support.
As the business grows, Kristan Johnson intends to focus more on leadership, mentoring new agents, refining systems, and strengthening buyer advocacy standards within the industry.
He also hopes to raise broader awareness of the value buyer’s agents provide. Despite the complexity of the market, many Australians still purchase property without professional representation. He believes that education and transparency can change that.
Kristan Johnson often reflects on the idea that all paths carry difficulty. Building a business is hard. Failing is hard. Achieving goals is hard. Missing out on them is also hard. The difference lies in choosing which challenge leads to growth.
His journey reflects that belief. From early missteps to building a respected buyer advocacy business, his focus has remained consistent: helping everyday buyers make better decisions, avoid unnecessary risks, and move forward with confidence.
Johnson Property Co continues to grow with that mission at its core, standing firmly on the buyer’s side and committed to making Sydney’s property market more navigable, fair, and human.
