Dubai, United Arab Emirates — Dubai’s most famous landmark, the Burj Khalifa, is once again making headlines. But this time, it’s not about breaking records for height or luxury. Instead, the news is about the way visitors and residents reach the towering icon. In June 2025, new transport options and upgrades around the Burj Khalifa have been officially unveiled by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and private operators.
These updates aim to make travel to and from the world’s tallest building faster, greener, and more comfortable. As Dubai gears up for record-breaking tourist numbers this year, these improvements are a welcome relief for those who have faced long wait times and traffic jams in the Downtown Dubai area.
First, the Dubai Metro has added more trains to the Red Line, which serves the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Station. Starting this month, commuters will enjoy a train every 90 seconds during peak hours, compared to every 2.5 minutes earlier. This will help manage crowds, especially on weekends and holidays when thousands of visitors flock to the Burj Khalifa.
The RTA has also introduced a “Green Express” service, which skips less-busy stops between Jebel Ali and Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall. This express metro cuts travel time by almost 15 minutes, making it more convenient for office workers, residents, and tourists staying in faraway hotels.
In addition to the metro, the bus network has been expanded. Three new bus routes — Route F72, Route F82, and Route X39 — now connect outlying neighborhoods directly to Burj Khalifa. These buses are modern, air-conditioned, and wheelchair-accessible.
Route F72 links the Business Bay area with the Burj Khalifa every 12 minutes, while Route F82 covers residential communities like Al Wasl and City Walk. Meanwhile, Route X39 offers a direct service from Dubai International Airport Terminal 3, making it easier for arriving tourists to head straight to the city’s most famous attraction.
The buses are equipped with free Wi-Fi, USB chargers, and digital route maps, ensuring a comfortable journey for all passengers.
Perhaps the most exciting addition is the new electric shuttle service. The RTA has launched a fleet of 20 small, fully electric minibuses operating within Downtown Dubai. These zero-emission shuttles run a circular route around the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and Dubai Opera, offering a free “hop-on, hop-off” experience.
The electric shuttles are designed to cut down on traffic congestion while also meeting Dubai’s environmental goals. According to the RTA, the shuttles can carry up to 15 passengers and recharge quickly at new solar-powered charging stations.
For those who prefer taxis or ride-hailing apps, June 2025 brings major improvements. New designated pick-up and drop-off zones have been set up around the Burj Khalifa, including at the Dubai Fountain entrance, the Dubai Opera entrance, and near the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard crossing.
Previously, visitors often struggled to find their taxis due to crowds and unclear signs. Now, digital signage and staff will help guide passengers, cutting down waiting times. Ride-hailing platforms like Careem and Uber have also partnered with the RTA to offer discounted fares to and from Burj Khalifa during off-peak hours.
In another big push for sustainability, Downtown Dubai has introduced more pedestrian-friendly routes and cycling tracks. A shaded, well-marked pedestrian walkway now links the Burj Khalifa to Dubai Mall and Business Bay Metro Station.
Cyclists will enjoy new bike racks and protected lanes, encouraging eco-friendly travel around the area. E-scooter parking zones have also been expanded to help riders easily switch from scooters to walking without blocking pathways.
The new transport upgrades are expected to benefit the millions of tourists who visit Burj Khalifa every year. The tower, standing at 828 meters, is a symbol of Dubai’s vision and ambition — and visitors often want to see it from every angle. But overcrowding has sometimes spoiled the experience.
Now, with easier public transport connections, free electric shuttle services, and better pedestrian links, tourists can enjoy their time without worrying about traffic or long taxi queues.
Dubai’s tourism department is also working with hotels to promote these sustainable transport options, encouraging guests to leave their cars at the hotel and use public services instead.
Many Downtown Dubai residents have welcomed the June 2025 update. “Before, it took us 20 minutes just to get to the Metro,” said Rehan, a resident living near Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard. “Now with the shuttle buses and the improved walkways, it takes half the time.”
Retail and restaurant operators around the Burj Khalifa also expect better footfall thanks to easier transport links. “Customers are happier to come in when they don’t have to battle traffic,” said Maryam, a café manager near the Dubai Fountain.
According to the RTA, these are just the first steps. Over the next two years, Dubai plans to add more autonomous vehicles, expand smart parking systems, and even explore air-taxi links around the Burj Khalifa district.
For now, June 2025 marks an important milestone in making the area around the Burj Khalifa more accessible, sustainable, and tourist-friendly.
Dubai continues to show the world how advanced urban planning can blend with luxury and convenience. Whether you live here or are visiting for the first time, the new transport options mean your trip to the Burj Khalifa will be smoother than ever.
